Tim Edwards brings young black heroes from Cape York

Aboriginal singer-songwriter and youth worker Tim Edwards brought a bus load of young people from Cape York to the Awakening 2000 Canberra Gathering in 1998 and they returned home as champions to their elders and their people.

On returning and showing a video of what they had achieved in Canberra, Tim saw many of the older people with tears of joy in their eyes, so proud of their youngsters, their message of reconciliation and their prayers for harmony - and the pictures of the world’s largest Aboriginal flag floating to earth over Parliament House. He knew he would have to bring those same young people to the Celebrating 2000 event at Stadium Australia in 2000!

At one time there was the hope of government funding, but it fell through. So the group has had to raise $20,000 to bring 40 people. They’ve raised enough to come to Sydney and they believe God will provide what they need to complete their journey home.

The young people will have a key role in the moments of reconciliation planned for the stadium event this Saturday.

And Tim will be one of the artists featured in the event (and in the All Night Concert at the Dome on Saturday night.)

Tim, also an Aboriginal pastor, has travelled widely throughout Australia and across the world to bring a message of reconciliation and hope. He has met with indigenous people from many cultures, visiting the Cree Indians of Canada, spoken and sung about reconciliation in the US and UK with a simple message.

He was a miraculous survivor of a boating tragedy 8km off the Cairns coast after swimming for eight hours some years ago.

Tim and some of his young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders are available for Interviews during their visit to Sydney.
